For each order of this plant, we ship 2 separate bunches of multiple stems that range from 6 to 8 inches. The stem bottoms can be thrown out or left in the substrate to give the plant a more bushy texture. The vibrant tops of the stems can be cut off and replanted to spread the colorful parts of the plant around. The plant grows in shoots that can be trimmed and replanted into your substrate. When propagation is needed, this plant should be propagated much like other stem plants. Mermaid Weed grows at a moderate to slow pace, so propagating doesn't need to be done too often. Carbon dioxide injection is highly recommended for this plant to truly thrive. If kept under insufficient lighting and/or water lacking in nutrients, Mermaid Weed tends to shed its leaves. This plant will certainly add a pop of color to your tank! This plant is considered moderately difficult to grow and maintain, so it may not be ideal for beginning aquatic plant enthusiasts. Additionally, the leaves will gradually change from just green to a variety of pink and golden hues. When allowed to grow under high-intensity lighting, the leaves will become more bristle-like, resembling tiny, delicate combs. Its leaves start out a vibrant green color with choppy, serrated edges. Mermaid Weed, also known as Saw-Tooth Hygro, has the potential to make a dramatic statement in any tank in which it is planted. The guide contains brief care and illustrated setup instructions specific to this plant. SubstrateSource Plant Guide: A plant guide is included with this plant. As with most aquatic varieties, this plant does benefit from supplemental nutrients and CO2, but these additions may not be required and depend on your setup and aquarium inhabitants. In the Aquarium: For optimal growth, provide this plant with an established freshwater aquarium with sufficient light, water circulation, and stable temperature. Scissors may be required to open the bag. The plant is shipped, sealed with adequate moisture, but not completely submerged in water. Shipping and Packaging: Each pot is individually packaged in a recyclable, clear plastic bag. Each pot generally contains one bulb rooted into the media. The plant is grown in rockwool growing media inside of a 2 inch mesh pot. For best results, bury the bulb just to the top of the roots. The leaves are generally around 1/4 inch, thinner than it's cousin, Crinum natans. SubstrateSource Crinum calamistratum "African Onion" is a fully aquatic, robust, bulb that produces flowing bullate leaves. Crayfish molt periodically and sometimes eat their old exoskeleton. Additional notes: Crayfish prefer foods like invertebrate pellets or blanched vegetables, but will also eat fish food and algae wafers. Cichlids can be aggressive towards crayfish and should not be kept in the same tank. Recommended Aquatic Arts tank mates: Fast-moving fish (such as Celestial Pearl Danios). They can live in almost any freshwater aquarium and are among the toughest freshwater tank inhabitants available to the hobby. Also, they may eat live plants, though some are worse about destroying plants than others. We keep them with guppies and fire red cherry shrimp, and have never seen a death, but we cannot guarantee that dwarf shrimp will be completely safe if kept with a large crayfish. They are fairly slow and only a sick fish would be able to be caught by the crayfish. Though crayfish are NOT friendly to other aquarium inhabitants, they can often live with fast-moving fish and animals that are not bottom-dwellers. This particular variant features an incredible bright red and orange coloring that makes it stand out among all other aquarium inhabitants! The red coloring on this crayfish fades into a tangerine color on the tail, claws, and legs. They are well known for keeping tanks clean and free of waste, especially useful in large aquariums of 30 gallons or more. This is a 2 to 3+ inch long young adult and may already be breeding age! These are very active crayfish that do not spend all of their time under rocks. Included is one Neon Red Crayfish of the Procambarus Alleni variety.
